Max Richard Kumpf, age 80, of Brazil, died at 5:31 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2006, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital.
He was born November 24, 1925, in Brazil, Indiana, as the son of Leslie and Zola Irene O'Hair Kumpf. Following graduation from Staunton High School he began a career as a farmer until his retirement. He married Roxie B. Hibbs October 18, 1944.
At the age of 12, Max joined the Jackson Township Community Band as a trombone player in 1937. He continued his participation in the Band, attending band practice only hours before his death. Max was also a member of the Brazil Concert Band. He and his wife Roxie enjoyed traveling worldwide. He also enjoyed time with his friends who met every morning at Hardee's for coffee. He was a member of the American Legion and Masonic Lodge 541.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Glen Kumpf.
He is survived by his wife Roxie; one daughter, Pamala Pell of Brazil; three sons, Dwight R. Kumpf and wife Debra of Titusville, Florida, Kip A. Kumpf and wife Kirstin of Brazil, and Kevin K. Kumpf and wife Romala of Brazil; one sister, Mary Lou Riddell of Brazil, three brothers, Earl Kumpf and wife Mary of Ohio, William Kumpf and wife Rosemary of Brazil, and John E. Kumpf of Florida; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Bob Kumpf officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn cemetery with music by the Jackson Township Band. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Jackson Twp Band. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
