The Meridian-Forest Historic District dedicated a red oak tree to the memory of Kenny Bass at Babe Wheeler Park on Friday. Bass, who passed away July 23, was Vice President of the Brazil City Parks Board and a member of the Meridian-Forest Historic District.
"Babe Wheeler Park was one of Ken's loves," said Dave Bussing, president of the Meridian-Forest Historic District.
Bass's younger son, Eric, said, "Dad checked on the park a lot. He talked to the kids to see what they wanted. Dad just lived two blocks away from this park, on Robinson Street, when he was a kid."
Ken's wife, Sue, interjected, "Kenny used to bring our kids here when they were little and he brought the grandkids here to play. Ands he held a lot of little league ball practices here," Sue said. "This park meant a lot to him. "
Jennifer Bass, Ken's daughter added, "Dad would have thought it was a great honor to have a tree planted in his name. It would have been very special to him."
