A drunk driver is accused of being responsible for a Clay County accident on Dec. 6.
Witnesses to the accident said a vehicle operated by Gary W. Nuckols, 45, of Center Point, Ind., left the American Legion parking lot, going south in the northbound lane on SR 59.
"Officers from our department, Brazil city police and Indiana State Police were involved in attempting to stop this person before there was an accident," Sheriff Rob Carter said.
Near Lake Shore Point Drive, Nuckols vehicle collided head-on with a vehicle operated by Wade C. Aker, 47, Knightsville.
Both Aker and his passenger, Mary K. Aker, 44, also of Knightsville, were transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Nuckols was transported to the Clay County Sheriff's office where he was tested for alcohol in his blood. His test results were .17, more than twice the legal limit. He was arrested at that time, charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing bodily injury.
Nuckols' bond was set at $7,000 with 10 percent allowable. He bonded out of Clay County jail after posting $700 bond on Dec. 7.
