Bill Purcel was chosen by the Democratic caucus on Saturday to fill the office of Clay County Recorder.

Joe Dierdorf, current recorder will replace outgoing William Morthland, Clay County Auditor. Dierdorf garnered a lion's share of the votes to win the auditor seat in the November elections.

"Records are records," said Purcel during his allotted time to address the party members present.

Purcel was the director of records and social registrar at Indiana State University. He was also on the county council for four years. Also noteworthy is that Purcel is a real estate agent and chairman of the Economic Development organization for Clay County.

"I appreciate the support the community gave me. I will do the best I can," Purcel said.

The current staff at the recorder's office will be retained, according to Purcel.

Purcel won the most votes, beating out Linda G. Moreau, Rachel Ruth Miller and Vickie M. Lawhorn for the position.

In other business, Rita Rothrock, the only nomination to fill the treasurer spot, will fill that position.

Also at the meeting, Nancy White resigned as secretary of the Democratic committee.
