Brazil Housing Authority has received a gift from Fifth Third Bank of Central Indiana. The housing authority was selected to receive a $10,000 grant that will help pay for improvements to a development it owns.

"We were able to purchase the vacant building at 114 W. National Ave. It's already been torn down and this grant will enable us to develop it into a park setting for Meridian Tower residents that should be ready by spring," Michael Hagemeyer, Brazil Housing Authority executive director, said.

The gated area will include benches and a water feature. Trees, shrubs and other flowered plantings will complete the landscaping. Hagemeyer said bid proposals for complete project will be accepted after the first of the year.

"Fifth Third Bank is proud to support such worthy organizations. We remain steadfast in our commitment to community development in the areas we serve. Our investment in these organizations is a demonstration of that mission," Beverly Mukes-Gaither, Fifth Third Bank vice president, community development, said.
