The Clay County Sheriff's Merit Board has unanimously selected Douglas L. Barr, 43, of Brazil to the position of Deputy Sheriff.

Barr is married with four children and is currently a Reserve Deputy for the department.

Within the first year of appointment, Barr will go through a three month FTO (field training officer) program and attend the 16 week basic training course at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in Plainfield.

Sheriff Rob Carter was pleased with the Merit Board decision. "Doug is loyal, dedicated and hard working. He will be a welcome addition to the department," Sheriff Carter said.

Barr will be sworn in on Monday at 10 a.m. by Judge Ernest Yelton of the Clay Circuit Court in the Circuit courtroom.

Merit Board members are: Dr. Ron Leach, Rob Sclight, Tom Telgemeyer, Jack Mayrose and Cathy Swearingen.
