No decision yet on state police sex for ticket allegation

Tuesday, January 14, 2003

ROCKVILLE, Ind. -- Steve Cvengros, Parke Co. prosecutor, said he will meet one more time with the female victim of an Indiana State Police Trooper who is accused of offering to tear up her traffic ticket in exchange for sex.

"I met with the alleged victim in December. She was going to get back with me about something, but she hasn't yet. I'd really like to meet with her one more time before I make any kind of decision," Cvengros said.

He said he called her today and left a message for her and hopes to talk with her again sometime yet this week.

"I suspect that after I speak with her, I would be ready to make a decision. I sure hope to have something final in the next couple of weeks," Cvengros said.

Indiana State Police are awaitng his decision of whether or not Cvengros will prosecute this as a criminal case.

"The penalties for criminal behavior are much more severe than misconduct. We cannot proceed (with possible punishment) until we hear the prosecutor's decision," Dave Bursten, ISP media relations, said.

The incident was alleged to have occurred during the summer, at least five months ago.
