A fire destroyed the Richard Munoz family home, 4482 N. Meadowood Dr., last night. A van, parked outside the attached garage was also destroyed in the blaze, but the family and their pet dog escaped unharmed. The dog spent the night on the steps, watching over the burned home.

The fire started at 6:53 p.m., Larry Tempel, Posey Township fire chief said.

Sarah Munoz and children were at home at the time, Richard Munoz was at work. The family became aware of the fire when their personal computer quit working. When they went to investigate, they found smoke in the garage.

The fire quickly spread to the rest of the house, Tempel said.

The tri-level home appeared to be a complete loss. The cause of the fire will be investigated by the state fire marshal's office today.

Fire fighters returned to the scene early this morning, when the fire rekindled.

Jackson Township, Center Point and Cory volunteer fire departments assisted the Posey department at the scene. The Clay County Sheriff's Department responded, as well.
