Trooper won't be prosecuted, may face discipline

Wednesday, January 22, 2003

Parke County Prosecutor Steve Cvengros released his decision not to prosecute the Indiana State Police trooper accused of offering to tear up a traffic ticket in exchange for sex.

"After careful consideration, I believe there is insufficient evidence to prove the trooper committed a criminal act, and therefore, no criminal charge will be filed. However, this does not prevent the Indiana State Police from disciplining the trooper," Cvengros said in a press release Tuesday afternoon.

Dave Bursten, ISP media relations, said ISP has been in a holding pattern for about five months waiting on the prosecutor's decision.

"Now that the prosecutor has determined not to file criminal charges, ISP will be conducting an internal investigation, which won't happen overnight, but I hope to have the results within a couple of weeks. At that time, ISP will release it's decision," Bursten said this morning.
