Advice sought for program priorities

The West Central Indiana Economic Development District Inc. will have a public hearing at 10 a.m. Feb. 21 at the Vigo County Public Library, Seventh and Poplar streets in Terre Haute.

This hearing is to receive input regarding priority services as well as review of the recently completed needs assessment for the Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled's proposed four year Area Plan which begins FY2004 (July 1, 2003-June 30, 2004).

This funding is for the provision of services to senior citizens, homebound individuals and those persons with disabilities in Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo Counties.

The process for accepting proposals and memorandums began on Oct. 23, 2002, and closed Nov. 22, 2002. Programs eligible to be funded through Title III of the Older American's Act include: In-home services, legal services, ombudsman, multi-purpose senior centers, nutrition services, transportation, preventive health services. Allocations (based on current funding): Title III/VII of the Older Americans Act $977,873, Title V Senior Employment $76,615.

Programs eligible to be funded through the Social Service Block Grant (SSBG) and the Community and Home Options to Institutional Care for the Elderly and Disabled (CHOICE) include: Homemaker, Handyman, Home Health Aide, Adult Day Care, Respite, Transportation, Home Delivered Meals and Assistant to the Homebound.
