The Clay City Imperial Winter Guard traveled to North Montgomery High School in Crawfordsville on Saturday to compete in their first IHSCGA guard contest.
The Clay City guard placed fourth out of 11 guards in class B competition. The 10-member guard was awarded a welcomed trophy for their months of hard work.
Guard Director Laurie Reberger was pleased with the performance as well as the placing.
"The girls are very young," Reberger said. "They have done a fantastic job of learning new skills and refining their technique. Our goal for the season is to be as technically sound as possible. The girls had a fantastic first performance. Nerves are always a factor when performing and especially for the first competition, but the girls did a great job of not allowing their nervousness to effect their performance. I am very proud of them all. Not only did they have the highest finish in about three years of competition, but also had a solid performance they are very proud of. I can't wait to see how far they will take this competition season."
Members of the 2003 Clay City Imperial Winter Guard are: Megan Wiley (rifle), Brittany Jones (rifle soloist, flag soloist), Larissa Staley (dance soloist, rifle), Brooklyn Higar (rifle, flag soloist), Cassie Staley (flag, dance soloist), Ashley Alexander (flag soloist), Crystal Randall (flag), Robin Harris (flag), Ashlyn Alsip (flag), and Rachael Mobley (flag).
