LaPlante attending troops departure

Tuesday, February 4, 2003

INDIANAPOLIS -- Representative Brooks LaPlante, R-Terre Haute, will participate in the departure ceremony being held today at Camp Atterbury. LaPlante, a U.S. Navy veteran, will attend the ceremony with two fellow State Representatives, Rich McClain, R-Logansport and Larry Buell, R-Indianapolis. McClain also served in the U.S. Navy, while Buell spent his time in the U.S. Army.

National Guard soldiers have been training rigorously since the beginning of the month at Camp Atterbury, located in Edinburgh, Ind., in preparation for their departure today. The infantry departs for unknown territory, leaving friends and family to pray for their safe return.

"These soldiers are going to perform one of the most honorable acts of mankind - fighting for our country," said LaPlante. "Their bravery and courage truly represent the tenacity and determination of America."

"As a U.S. Navy veteran and State Representative, I am honored to partake in this important occasion."
