TERRE HAUTE -- For the second year in row, Telecommunications Officer Joseph Shackelford, a 24-year veteran with the Indiana State Police received the prestigious Emergency Medical Dispatcher of the Year Award.
Telecommunications Operator Joseph Shackelford received an Emergency 911 call of a male not breathing at a residence on U.S. 41 in northern Vigo County. The female caller was hysterical. Operator Shackelford dispatched an ambulance and the proper rescue to the scene, he then attempted to locate a police officer in northern Vigo County from the Indiana State Police and the Vigo County Sheriffs Department in an attempt to have the officer help. Operator Shackelford made every effort possible in trying to save a life.
