Mayor Kenny Crabb said Friday that a new residential subdivision could be in Brazil's future if the property owner can get the estate rezoned from agricultural to residential before the sale.
Crabb explained that Robert Palm, son of the late Stanley Palm, a retired police officer, recently placed property up for sale. The land is located to the south of Morris Manufacturing, on the west side of Murphy Avenue. The potential buyer has expressed interest in building a subdivision on the site.
The zoning issue will first have to go to the Zoning Board and then meet final approval from the city council before any official plans for the proposed residential area get underway.
"It's a few months away," Crabb said, "but the person interested in the property wants to build a subdivision there."
Palm is hopeful the 9 1/2 acre site will get rezoned.
"I feel good about it, but I don't know for sure yet," he said, adding he's been told by city officials that it shouldn't be a problem.
