Thomas' bill passes

Monday, March 3, 2003

INDIANAPOLIS -- HB1569, co-authored by State Representative Andy Thomas (R-Brazil), passed the Indiana House of Representatives this week by a bi-partisan vote of 90-7. The legislation will require the drug utilization review board to determine the 15 drugs prescribed most frequently under Medicaid. In addition, the bill requires a study of pricing based on these 15 prescription drugs. The results would be published on the Internet.

"This is the first step to ensure that Hoosiers, especially senior citizens, receive fair prices on prescriptions," Thomas said.

The information derived from the study will be published on the Family and Social Services administration Web site, available at http ://www.in. gov/fssa, once the study has been completed. Information about discount drug programs will also be available.

"I am hopeful the Senate will also understand the importance of this issue, and pass HB1569." Thomas said.
