Gebert plays in ISU Symphonic Band

Monday, March 3, 2003

Northview High School graduate Ellis Gebert has been selected to play French horn in the Symphonic Band at Indiana State University where he is a freshman theater education major.

"I am looking forward to having Ellis in the band this semester. I believe he has a lot of good musical instincts," Band Director Doug Keiser said.

Gebert, a former member of the NHS marching band and theater department, is also involved in drama at ISU and will appear at the New Theater in the production of "Man a La Mancha" which will runs through March 5.

Gebert believes that participating in band and theater in high school prepared him well for his college activities.

"The band got me ready because Med (Bob Medworth) and Pete (Kikta) told us every day to be the best musicians we can and try to make the best sound every time you pick up your horn," Gebert said.

Gebert plans to change his major soon to music education and wants to be a high school band director. Gebert is the son of Nancy and Kent Ewing of Brazil and Mark and Frieda Gebert of Salvisa, Ky.

The Symphonic Band is a 50-member ensemble open to all ISU students who desire to continue their musical experience. Members are selected by audition at the beginning of the semester. The symphonic band performs original wind band music as well as transcriptions twice a semester at Tilson Auditorium.
