The Clay City Winter Percussion placed fifth out of 13 units in Class A Movement competition Saturday at the Mt. Vernon Indiana Percussion Association Contest in Fortville, Ind. It was the group's first competition of the IPA season.
Norwell (Ossian) won the competition, followed by second place Bishop Dwenger (Indianapolis), third place Richmond, and fourth place Mt. Vernon (Fortville). Trophies were given for the five placings.
The Clay City Imperial Winter Guard was in competition last Saturday at the Northview Winter Guard Contest. The guard placed fifth out of 25 units in Class B. North Harrison (Ramsey) won the competition, followed by second place Western (Russiaville), third place Bloomington North, and fourth place Anderson. Trophies were given for the top five placings.
The next action for both groups will be Saturday in their respective state preliminary competitions. The winter percussion will compete in the IPA State Prelims Saturday at Avon High School. The winter guard will compete in the IHSCGA State Prelims Saturday at Center Grove High School, Greenwood.
Both groups will present a public performance of their winter shows at 8 p.m. Thursday in the gym at Clay City Elementary School. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted.
