Lucy is a general assignment reporter for The Times. She and her children, Emily, 10, and Alex, 4, have a beagle named Jane and a cat named Cisco.
The 31-year-old Terre Haute native remembers wanting to be a newspaper reporter ever since she was in the third grade. She returned to college as a nontraditional student in 2000 and recently earned a Bachelors degree in journalism at Indiana State University. An American Civil War buff, she minored in history while in college.
She worked in a residential group home for developmentally disabled adults in Terre Haute for a few years before returning to school. Before graduating from ISU, she worked briefly at the Vincennes Sun-Commercial, but she considers the Washington newspaper as her first real reporting job.
When it comes to reporting, she enjoys feature writing the most because she thinks everyone has an interesting story to tell.
