The Clay City Imperial Winter Guard placed eighth out of 12 guards in the IHSCGA Class B State Finals last Saturday at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Ind. The placings were as follows: 1. North Harrison, 2. Southmont, 3. Western, 4. Bloomington North, 5. Maconaquah "B", 6. Lawrence North "B", 7. Pioneer, 8. Clay City, 9. Bishop Dwenger, 10. Anderson, 11. Monroe Central, 12. Woodlan.
Guard Director Laurie Reberger said the group's performance was by far the girls' best of the year. "Since this was our first year to be in State Finals since 1997, we were thrilled with our placing. We have had to compete all season with schools much larger than ours and guards comprised of primarily high school students. Our guard is made up of mostly seventh, eighth and ninth graders. They certainly rose to the challenge. We are hopeful that this year's success will build interest for the future."
