BLOOMFIELD, Ind. -- The Bloomfield Evening World newspaper has been acquired from William Miles, Jr. by Rust Communications, the newspaper company that operates the daily newspapers in Brazil, Greencastle and Linton, Ind. The sale is effective today.
Randy List, publisher and part owner of Rust Publishing LLC will serve as group publisher.
"It is a great pleasure to bring Bloomfield into our Indiana family," List said. "Our goal is to have two strong daily papers serving the people of Greene County. We have no intentions of closing The Evening World, although there will be some changes."
One initial change will be that readers in Bloomfield will notice the use of color pictures on the front page starting today. Merchants will now be able to use color in their advertising.
"We seek to grow the company strategically to better serve advertisers and readers," List said. "This latest acquisition strengthens two of our existing clusters."
Chris Pruett, general manager of the Linton Daily Citizen, will also serve as general manager of The Evening World. Pruett has been at Linton for more than 13 years.
"Chris will be in charge of the day-to-day operations at the Bloomfield facility," List said.
Pruett said he's looking forward to being a bigger part of the Bloomfield community.
"The Evening World has done a good job in the years I've been associated with Greene County, and I'm looking forward to continuing that community journalism," Pruett explained. "Bloomfield is a nice community, and I'm sure that under Rust Communications The Evening World will continue serving its readers well."
Rust Publishing LLC is affliated with Rust Communications headquartered in Cape Girardeau, Mo. This family-owned newspaper company has grown from four newspapers 10 years ago to 50 newspapers in seven states.
