Record Number to Graduate May 31 at Rose-Hulman; Live Web Cast Planned

The largest graduation class in Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology history will receive degrees during the 125th commencement at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday, May 31. Ceremonies begin at 10:50 a.m. with the traditional procession of graduates through campus to the Sports and Recreation Center. Rose-Hulman President Samuel Hulbert will present degrees to 393 students. Bachelor of science degrees will be awarded to 347 graduates and 46 will receive master's degrees. The number of graduates surpasses the class of 2000 when 375 students received B.S. or M.S. degrees. The graduation program will be broadcast live on the Internet for the first time. The ceremonies can be accessed at www.Rose-Hulman.Edu/Gradcast Special 50th anniversary diplomas will be presented to 11 members of the class of 1953. Honorary doctor of engineering degrees will be awarded to Tony Hulman George, president and chief executive officer, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Indianapolis; Eric Mooney, plastic surgeon, Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown, N.Y.; and Tim Solso, chairman and chief executive officer, Cummins, Inc., Columbus, Ind. An honorary doctor of humane letters degree will be awarded to Joy Sacopulos of Terre Haute for her leadership as a volunteer for local and state organizations. Solso will deliver the commencement address. The recipients of seven special awards will also be announced. The awards include the Dean's Outstanding Teacher Award, the Board of Trustees' Outstanding Scholar Award and the President's Outstanding Service Award. Sudent awards lude the Heminway Medal given to the graduating senior with the highest grade point average, the Herman Moench Distinguished Senior Commendation, the John Tuller Royse Award

and the Outstanding Graduate Thesis Award. The Moench Commendation is presented for outstanding potential for professional achievement. The Royse Award is given for outstanding leadership, academic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities.
