The new superintendent for Clay Community Schools was announced at a special school board meeting last night.
William H. Schad will move from his eight-year term as Southwest Parke superintendent to start a three-year contract here July 1 with a $95,000 salary and a $20,000 benefit package. A formal reception is being planned for August to introduce him to school corporation employees and the community.
"This is a new start for the school corporation and a means of building better relations with the teachers association, principals and central office personnel," Jon Hull, school board president, said.
The board also voted to accept the only bid received for $69,948 from Esco Communications, Inc. to install a direct phone line to Clay City schools in order to eliminate long distance charges and consolidate the voice mail system.
It's estimated that more than $10,000 is spent yearly on long distance telephone service. The board plans to eventually install direct phone lines to Jackson Township Elementary as well in the near future.
