YMCA CEO Nancy Berkheiser, center, plans the YMCA's Firecracker 5K Run/Walk scheduled for the 4th of July, with Teri Chamberlain, the Y Fitness Coordinator and Brad Dodson, the Y Program Director.
The YMCA of Clay County will sponsor the Firecracker 5K Run/Walk starting at 7:30 a.m. on July 4th to begin and end at the YMCA.
According to YMCA Fitness Coordinator Teri Chamberlain, the 3.1 mile trek will go south on 59 to the Forest Park entrance. It will continue around the go-cart track exiting the park on Pinckley Street. Then it's east on Pinckley to and through the Edgewood sub-division to Jackson Street. Turn west on Jackson to Lambert, head north and return to the YMCA.
YMCA CEO Nancy Berkheiser said the entry fees are $15 for early registration before June 27. Late registration is $18 after June 27 until 7:15 a.m. on race day. Registration forms may be picked up at the YMCA.
Tank tops are guaranteed for early registration. All others will get a tank top only as long as they last. Tank tops and race numbers may be picked up the day of the race between 6:30 and 7:15 a.m.
All entrants will receive a medal. Trophies will be given for 1st and 2nd place winners in each age group of 14 and under, 15-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and over for both men and women. The awards presentation will be held immediately after the race.
This is the first year the race has been scheduled on the 4th of July. Previously, under various sponsors, it has been held in June since 1988.
All ages are welcome. People along the route are encouraged to come out and cheer on the runners and walkers. This should be a fun, family event.
All proceeds will go towards the purchase of fitness equipment for the YMCA. For more information call 812-442-6761
