Brazil City Police arrested five people Friday evening after serving a search warrant at 738 N. Columbia St. Resident, Walter Smith, 51, was arrested on preliminary charges of dealing drugs over three grams. Police Chief Terry Harrison said they found several grams of methamphetamine, some marijuana and a large amount of cash in the house. Harrison said the Class A Felony could carry a 30 plus year sentenced.
Four other individuals present at the time were also arrested on charges of visiting a common nuisance. The Class B Misdemeanor can carry punishment of up to six months in jail. Arrested were Pamela Sanders, 38, from Brazil, Ashlynn Sanders, 18, from Carbon, Olivia Smith, 24, and William Clifford Stone, 20, both from Brazil.
All four arrested on the common nuisance charges bonded out of jail June 7, on $3,000 bond with 10 percent. Walter Smith's bond was set at $50,000 cash, no percent. He remains in the Clay County Jail. His arraignment has not yet been set.
Chief Harrison said the bust came about from information they'd received and had been working on. Surveillance had been going on for a while.
"We thought we had enough so we got a search warrant," Harrison said. "It was a pretty big hit. That's what we need, people to give us information. We will follow up on it."
