There will be a free car seat clinic at the Clay County Learning Center, from 3-6 p.m. on June 16. The program is sponsored by the CARS Healthy Families of Clay County and the Brazil Autoplex.
Donna Whitmer, family assessment worker for Healthy Families of Clay County, said the inspections are free and will be done by the Vigo County Chances for Youth.
"We're going to have Sparky the Dog from the Brazil Fire Deptment along with some firemen, a firetruck and some policemen," Whitmer said. "There will be lots of organizations available who'll provide games for the kids and they'll give out information about their functions to the families.
"Winnie the Pooh will be there to read to the children while their car seats are being inspected. And WSDM 98 Radio will provide music."
Whitmer explained that car seats are required for kids from birth to 80 pounds. Children under 12 have to be in the back seat. Age and weight determines the type of car seat needed. It's the law that a child under 40 pounds has to be in a car seat.
"Families who can not afford car seats may seek information on how to acquire one from CARS," Whitmer said.
The Learning Center is located at 800 W. Jackson St. Whitmer advised that south Hoosier St. from Jackson to Knight St. will be blocked and there will be no through traffic for the duration of the program.
