A Putnam County section of I-70 claimed three lives in as many days and resulted in the closing of I-70 for several hours on Tuesday.
Volunteers were asked to direct traffic at major intersections of U.S. 40 in Brazil on Tuesday to accomodate the increased load due to the detour.
A three-semi pile-up 2:22 p.m. Tuesday at the 34-mile marker resulted in one fatality. Traffic at the site had been slowed due to highway construction.
Matthew Unbuh, of South Carolina, died at the scene. Gary Ramsey, of Oklahoma, was Life-lined by medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He suffered two broken legs in the incident.
On Monday, a dump truck was westbound on I-70 near Cloverdale at the 39-mile marker. While the truck was attempting to make a U-turn, a vehicle rear-ended the truck resulting in two fatalities. Todd and Ronald Michel were killed on impact.
