Budget, pool programs discussed

Wednesday, July 9, 2003

The Brazil Park and Recreation Board approved an estimated budget of $204,153 during their Monday night meeting at City Hall. The proposed budget will be submitted to the City Clerk for approval.

Pool Manager Sara Osborn reported it has generated revenue of $12,791.25 so far this season. The second swimming lesson session begins Monday. People can enroll as long as vacancies are available. There are still a few openings.

The board voted to let the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center purchase day passes for their day care program. They also approved for Ron Muncie to spend up to $100 for tools for the park as needed.

A motion was carried to put lights on the water fountain in the CCC Pond which is located in front of the Chafariz dos Contos fountain. Board Treasurer John Tilley was authorized to contact Double B Fence about putting in a support bar to strengthen the gate at the south end of Forest Park.

Other items discussed included the merry-go-round, which should be completed in two weeks. Sidewalks to the two small bridges will be started in two weeks. The Board signed the Popcorn Festival contract.

The Board has received $10,000 from the Thelma Wallace bequest. Another $4,000 is anticipated. The high school cross country team will begin practicing on the new track at Craig Park this week.

The cross country track is being developed by the efforts of Brad Deal and his family, Northview High School track coach Jeff Gambill and members of the track and cross country teams and some of their families.

Next month's board meeting will be changed to Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 7:00 p.m. The change is to accommodate Board Vice President Brad Deal's work schedule.
