Golf scramble

Zac Sheese prepares to putt on hole 9 of the Forest Park Golf Course at the 16th Annual YMCA Golf Scramble Saturday morning while his teammates stand back and observe. The tournament started at 8 a.m. and play had to be altered due to storms earlier in the week making hole 12 unplayable. Golfers therefore had to go directly from hole 11 to hole 12 and putt from 30 feet. If they made it, they scored an eagle; if they missed, they got a birdie. The entry fee of $50 per person or $200 per team covered a golf cart, green fees, lunch, drink and a chance to win prizes. The first place teams in Peoria Handicap and Low Gross were each awarded $300. The second place teams in each won $200. In addition, $50 went to the longest drive on hole 1, closest to the pin on hole 5 and the longest putt on hole 14. There was also a car available for anyone making a hole-in-one on hole 11 and a YMCA membership was raffled off to participants. Seventeen teams of four played in the scramble and all proceeds went to the YMCA Scholarship fund to provide assistance to people in economic need.
