Eddie's Sandwich Shop is scheduled to open 11 a.m. Aug. 2. Co-owners Rod and Elaine Clarke will be manning the grill and serving the burgers. One of the cooks will be well-known hometown chef Larry Ringo, co-owner of Parties Rental and Catering.
Cooking and flipping the first hamburger will be Bob Knierim, a previous owner and the son of the original Eddie.
Rod Clarke said many people have asked if they could buy the first retailed hamburger from the new Eddie's. He doesn't want to offend anyone. So a fun, ingenious way to pick the first customer was suggested by his friend, John Coughanowr. Tickets will be raffled off for $1. All of the money will be given to the Habitat for Humanity of Clay County. The winner will be notified Wednesday evening by phone.
Anyone interested in participating in the Eddie's raffle can purchase tickets at Crossroad's Studio, 236 E. National Ave., or at Pages Food Store in Brazil. Pages will have tickets available starting today. Crossroads will sell them during regular business hours starting Monday. Tickets will be sold until 5 p.m. Wednesday when the winning ticket will be drawn out by Knierim.
