Indiana is now in a period when a large number of new teachers who entered the profession in the early 1970s are beginning to retire. Finding replacements for these teachers will pose a challenge to Clay Community Schools and many other rural school districts in the near future. One pool of likely candidates already reside in our community. This pool of candidates includes people who are now pursuing other careers but have an interest in retooling themselves to be teachers.
Clay Community Schools and Indiana University will co-host an informational meeting titled "Becoming a Teacher" on Monday (Aug. 25) at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in the North Clay Middle School Media Center. Information will be provided regarding anticipated teaching needs and the variety of retraining opportunities that now exist at Indiana University and across the state. Attendees will be given time to seek answers to questions about their individual educational circumstances. For additional information, contact Kathy Knust at clay community schools, 812-443-4461.
