Utility warns of con artists

Friday, August 22, 2003

Cinergy, the parent company of PSI Energy Inc., is warning customers to watch out for con artists posting as utility employees.

Cinergy/PSI received reports Thursday from three Howard County residents who were approached by a man claiming to work for Cinergy/PSI. The residents, who live in rural Kokomo, said a man approached them saying he needed to inspect electrical equipment in their homes and asked for payment.

"If someone comes to your door claiming to work for the electric company, ask for company identification and if there is any doubt, contact us for further verification," said Laura Sheets, Cinergy/PSI Kokomo customer relations manager. "Seldom do our workers have reason to enter customers' homes."

Any customer who has a susipcious contact should call Cinergy and the local law enforcement agency. Cinergy's number for Indiana customers is (800) 521-2232.
