Brazil Planning and Zoning Administrator Michele Driscoll reported she has received numerous complaints regarding weeds in the downtown area. Growth of weeds in the tree row, between curb and road and in cracks in the sidewalks in front of many businesses and some homes have been an area of concern.
Driscoll said that each individual business or home owner has the responsibility to maintain the sidewalk and road area in front of their property.
"We've got the Popcorn Festival coming up in early October," Driscoll said. "A lot of people will be traveling through our town. A clean and well maintained city would go a long way to make people feel good about the community."
Driscoll has talked with the Brazil City Street Dept. and the Clay County Community Corrections. They are trying to find a means to help people who are unable to comply with the clean-up effort possibly due to physical limitations.
Offers to help with this clean-up project would be appreciated. Anyone wishing to help or wanting to report a weed grown location may call Driscoll at 812-446-0050, extension 5.
