Motorcyclist in fair condition after crash

Friday, September 26, 2003

Shawn Coleman, 29, 11074 N. CR 300E, was transported by medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital Thursday afternoon. He was involved in a car/motorcycle crash about 4:15 p.m. The wreck occurred at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Church St. in Harmony. He was listed in fair condition by the hospital Thursday afternoon.

According to a report by Clay County Deputy Matthew Weber, Coleman was traveling west on U.S. 40 on a 1978 Harley motorcycle belonging to Christopher Coleman.

Dana L. Shaw, 36, of Reelsville, was eastbound on U.S. 40 in her 1998 Mercury Sable. She attempted to turn north onto Church Street. Shaw stated to Deputy Weber that she did not see Coleman and turned into his path of travel.

Coleman, who was not wearing a helmet, collided with the front of Shaw's vehicle and was thrown from his motorcycle receiving numerous abrasions. The extent of the injuries were not known but he was flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The hospital was unable to give a condition report on Coleman at the time they were contacted.

It appeared that Shaw, who was wearing a seat belt, received no injuries. The accident is still under investigation.
