CINCINNATI-- Cinergy Corp. (NYSE:CIN), the parent company of PSI Energy, Indiana's largest electric supplier, has been named by Working Mother magazine to its annual list of America's 100 Best Companies for Working Mothers. This is the seventh consecutive year Cinergy has appeared on the list.
Working Mother magazine, which has compiled the list for 18 years, bases its company selections on a number of criteria, including the number of work/life programs they offer, the employee usage of such programs and the representation of women throughout the company. This year editors gave particular weight to three issues: flexible scheduling, essential for working mothers; advancement of women, critical for women in the workplace; and child-care options, because without them, parents can't work
"Even these tough economic times haven't swayed the commitment of our forward-thinking '100 Best' companies," says Working Mother Editor-in-Chief Jill Kirschenbaum.
In fact, the magazine finds that "benefits have increased, ranging from child-care programs to massages to dinner-in-a-box to go from the company cafeteria Companies want to cut employee stress to keep them healthy and happy".
Jeannie Vangundy, Cinergy field customer relations manager and mother of three, took advantage of Cinergy's tuition assistance program Jeannie earned her business degree while working part-time and weekends. Now she is working full-time and is involved in Cinergy's mentoring program.
"Cinergy has been very good to me," Jeannie says "This is where I'm making my career."
This year, the magazine cited Cinergy's programs supporting adoption assistance, paid paternity and adoption leave and mentoring programs that help to increase the number of women in management and executive positions
