Cinergy warns of scams

Wednesday, October 8, 2003

Cinergy, the parent company of PSI Energy Inc., is warning customers to watch out for con artists posing as utility employees

Cinergy/PSI received a report recently about a Terre Haute resident who was approached by a man claiming to work for Cinergy/PSI. The resident said a man approached him saying he needed to upgrade lightning rods in his home and asked for payment.

"If someone comes to your door claiming to work for the electric company, ask for company identification, and if there is any doubt, contact us for further verification," said Rick Burger, Cinergy/PSI Terre Haute customer relations manager. "Seldom do our workers have reason to enter customers' homes."

Any customer who has a suspicious contact should call Cinergy and the local law enforcement agency. Cinergy's number for Indiana customers is 1-800-521-2232.
