Autos 1, turkey 0

Wednesday, October 8, 2003

The wild turkey seen charging at and chasing after vehicles on Kennedy's Crossing Road will chase no more. Northview High School student, Jason Vanatti, reported yesterday that he saw the bird lying on the side of the road.

The turkey had become like a pet to many in the area. Some residents even fed it. However, its strange behavior certainly put it at high risk.

The turkey would periodically charge at oncoming vehicles. When it got to the edge of the road it chased after the cars like a dog. Sometimes it would sit in the middle of the road causing motorists to come to a complete stop.

Unfortunately, the inevitable happened. The turkey was hit by a vehicle and died. A neighbor, Richard Broady, retrieved the bird and disposed of its remains.
