Pastor Appreciation Day will be observed at Staunton Christian Church on Oct.26.
Doug Parkey, the pastor at Staunton, will be honored with a card shower and a pitch-in meal following the morning worship service. Doug has spent 34 years in the ministry, serving churches in Indiana and Kentucky.
With his wife, Karen, he began his current ministry at Staunton in February 2000.
His family can claim five generations of preachers, beginning with Doug's great-grandfather, John W. Masters, who was an itinerant preacher in West Virginia and Kentucky. John's son, Shelburn Masters, was a circuit-riding preacher in Kentucky, and was responsible for starting twenty-seven churches and baptizing over 3,000 church members.
Doug's father, Marion Parkey, has recently retired after having spent 57 years in the ministry. John Parkey, Doug's son, is serving as youth minister at Okalona Christian Church in Louisville, Ky.
