City crash injures three

Thursday, October 23, 2003

Three ambulances can be seen following a crash at the intersection of Church and Meridian streets Wednesday afternoon. Three people were injured.

Three people were injured in a four-vehicle crash around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday.

While four-vehicle crashes in Clay County are not unheard of, they are unusual and this one happened in a business/residential area, near The Brazil Times building, at the corner of Meridian and Church streets.

Brazil Police Officer Martin Beasley identified the drivers of the four vehicles as Jacob McClelland, Carolyn Bayer, Dwight Routson and Steven Call.

Call, commonly known as Shane Call, told The Times he was stopped, westbound on Church Street, waiting to turn north when a black truck, apparently driven by McClelland, pulled onto Meridian Street, eastbound, on Church Street, and hit the Bayer auto, forcing it into Call's car and a truck, apparently driven by Routson, stopped at the First National Bank & Trust Co. drive-through.

Officer Beasley said the injured were Jacob McClelland, Carolyn Bayer and Bayer's daughter. The daughter's name was not identified at the crash scene.
