A Clay County resident was injured in a vehicle accident approximately 5 p.m. Thursday.
According to witnesses, a motorcycle driven by Daniel W. Airhart, 34, of Brazil, was heading eastbound on US 40 and struck the rear of a van, driven by Ronald L. Quintaine, 33, of Terre Haute.
The van was attempting to turn left from eastbound US 40 onto CR 300 East when the accident occurred.
Airhart was in the left lane on US 40 and did not see the van in time to avoid contact. Skid marks at the scene show that the motorcycle slid approximately 210 ft. before striking the van. Airhart was transported by Athens Ambulance to St. Vincent Clay Hospital, where he was admitted for injuries to his head and upper body. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
Quintaine was not injured.
Damage was estimated between $2500 and $5000. Clay County Sheriff's Deputies Doug Barr and Mike Deakins investigated. Members of the Van Buren Fire Department and the Clay County Search and Rescue team responded to the scene.
