College, WTHI-TV announce Top 10

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College and WTHI-TV congratulate Janice Taney from Clay City Jr./Sr. High School as a October Top 10 Scholarship winner. Taney will receive a $10,000 scholarship to attend SMWC.

Taney has been involved with FCCLA, track team, SADD and Spanish Club while at Clay City Jr./Sr. High School.

She serves as vice president of the Bible Club and has been a student leader for Youth For Christ for the past two years. In addition, she has been the drum major for the Clay City Imperial Regiment for four years, assisting with study tables and leading sectional rehearsals.

She has also served as a section leader for IPA and the Clay City winter guard. Taney also spends much of her time volunteering at her church, the Lighthouse Mission, Awana and has helped tutor junior high school students.

Ranked sixth in her class with a 3.867 GPA, she is a member of the National Honors Society and has been named an Academic All-Star three times.

She served as a Hoosier Girls State Delegate, received the National Physical Fitness Award and the mental attitude award for band and has been named best drum major at 20 out of 27 competitions during the last three years. Janice is the daughter of Gerald and Sarah Taney of Clay City.

She plans to study pre-school to third grade education/mild intervention when she attends SMWC.

"I was so excited when I was chosen as one of the scholarship winners for Top Ten on Ten," Janice says. "This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I can't wait to join the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods community!"

- Women interested in learning more about distance education options at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College are invited to attend SMWC's Fall Chats on Nov. 17 from 2-4 p.m. in the Conference Center of SMWC's Hulman Hall.

An admission counselor will be on hand to explain how SMWC's Women's External Degree Program works and financial aid and career development staff will also be on hand to answer any questions. A campus tour will be available at 4 p.m.
