Brazil City Police Officer Kenny Hill is preparing to kick off the Shop with a Cop program. Funding is needed to support the project.

The Christmas season is almost here. The Brazil City Police Dept. is starting to prepare for the Shop with a Cop Christmas program for the up-coming holiday season.

According to Brazil City Police Chief Terry Harrison the program is funded by donations. Anyone wanting to donate to the project can sends contributions to: Brazil City Police Department, 203 E. National Ave., Brazil, IN, 47834. Checks should be made out to Shop with a Cop.

Canisters will be placed at local banks, and perhaps other businesses, throughout the city starting this Friday until mid December.

The purpose of the program is to provide Christmas to some local families who've experienced hardship during the year. Qualifying families will accompany a police officer or dispatcher to Wal-Mart on the designated day to do their Christmas shopping.

It's mostly for the kids but occasionally a child will request that he be allowed to buy a present for his parents or siblings. First priorities are to purchase needed clothing, coats and shoes. But there's usually some money reserved for a few toys.

Anyone wanting to determine how to qualify for the program should call the Police Department.
