Initial autopsy results inconclusive

Friday, November 21, 2003

No cause has yet been determined for the death of Kodi B. Pipes, 13, of Clay City. The teenager collapsed during basketball practice at Clay City High School on Wednesday night. He died at 9:02 p.m. after being transferred to St. Vincent Clay Hospital by ambulance.

Coroner Rick Swearingen said results of an autopsy conducted Thursday won't be known for a few days.

"The preliminary autopsy results didn't give us much to go on," Swearingen said this morning. "However, we're looking at his medical history and it looks like asthma was a contributing factor. However, we don't know anything positive, yet."

Funeral services for Pipes will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in Christ Community Church on S.R. 59 in Brazil.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Saturday at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City, and again Sunday at 2 p.m. in the church.

Kodi's parents, Ronna Timberman of Clay City and John Pipes of Terre Haute have requested that memorial contributions be directed to the Kodi Braden Pipes Scholarship. Evnvelopes will be available at the funeral home.
