The Brazil Police Department received a call of an accident with personal injuries on East U.S. 40 in front of Wal-Mart Friday at 10:06 a.m.

A vehicle driven by Brian Black of rural Brazil was going east in the eastbound driving lane. At the same time another vehicle was going east in the eastbound passing lane. A pedestrian, Eva B. Ethington of Brazil, started crossing U.S. 40. The driver of the vehicle in the passing lane saw that Ethington was not stopping and he was able to stop for her. Ethington continued to cross the highway, walking into the eastbound driving lane where she was struck by the vehicle driven by Black.

Ethington was transported to St. Vincent's Clay Hospital where she later died. The accident is still under investigation.
