The Brazil City Council had its last meeting of the year Tuesday at noon.
Council members voted to pass Ordinance 15 on the second reading, which will make the intersection of Wheeler and Jackson a 4-way stop.
They suspended rules and passed Ordinance 16 on the first reading. In doing so, they agreed to make South Wheeler St. a temporary one-way street for one block. This will be in effect until work on the new stoplight in front of Wal-Mart is complete.
The Council then opted to borrow money from Fifth Third Bank to pay back the money due at the end of 2003. Out of three bids on the $530,000, Fifth Third's offered interest rate was the lowest at 1.9 percent.
The newly-elected Council will gather for an organizational meeting on Jan. 5, under the direction of Mayor Tom Arthur.
