Mark Spelbring has been appointed county extension director for Purdue Extension in Parke County.
The appointment was made by Dave Petritz, Director of Purdue Cooperative Extension Service.
Spelbring is also responsible for Extension programs in the Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) program area, and in the Leadership and Community Development (LCD) program area in Parke County.
Spelbring previously served as County Extension Director in Vermillion County, starting in 1985. In 1995 he changed to a split position, dropping to one-half time in Vermillion and adding the Agriculture and Natural Resources responsibilities in Parke County. He was also on leave from county duties for a one year special assignment as an Extension Land Use Specialist on the Purdue campus in 2000-2001.
Spelbring was assigned to Parke County full time in 2002. Upon the retirement of Alan Ader as county extension director at the end of May, Spelbring became Interim County Extension Director until the permanent appointment was effective in November.
Spelbring is a native of the Poland area of Clay County, and holds degrees in Animal Science and Genetics from Purdue. He worked as extension livestock agent in Pasco County, Fla., before joining the Purdue Extension system.
As county extension director, Spelbring has administrative responsibilities for Purdue Extension in Parke County. In addition, with the Extension Office located on the Parke County Fairgrounds, his duties include management of the fairgrounds facilities.
