Rep. supports page plan

Monday, January 19, 2004

State Representative Brooks LaPlante (R-Terre Haute) is encouraging students in his district to participate in the page program for the 2004 session of the Indiana General Assembly.

Students who serve as pages for the House of Representatives take part in various activities, including touring the governor's office, the chambers of the Indiana House and Senate and the Indiana Supreme Court. Pages also have the opportunity to witness floor action and committee meetings, as well as aid legislative assistants with constituent work.

"The page program not only provides students with the opportunity to visit the Statehouse, but it is an educational experience, as well," said Rep. LaPlante.

Pages also have the opportunity to meet and have their picture taken with Rep. LaPlante. Students are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from Indianapolis and will receive an excused absence from school.

"I look forward to meeting the students of our community through the page program. It makes for an exciting and memorable occasion," said Rep. LaPlante.

Those students interested in serving as pages can print an application from www.in.gov/h46 by clicking on "Student Services." They may also contact the office of Rep. LaPlante at 1-800-382-9841 ext.9729. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best days to serve and there are no pages on Fridays.
