Hospital has phone problems

Thursday, February 12, 2004

Patrons of St. Vincent Clay Hospital have been experiencing difficulties phoning the hospital switchboard, said spokesperson Jennifer Orr.

The problem arose because Verizon listed both the hospital's old number and new number in the latest telephone directory. The correct number is 442-2500.

"When the phone number was changed early last year, a rollover feature was put in place to direct any calls coming in on the old hospital number to be redirected to the hospital switchboard, when working properly," Orr said in a Wednesday press release.

When people dialed the old number, a rollover feature directed their calls to the new number. Unfortunately, the rollover feature was deleted without being detected.

The hospital was unaware of the problem until staff members began receiving calls from the community about the problem.

"The phone problem should be correct by Friday," Orr said. "We sincerely apologize for any inconveniences this may have caused and maintain that we are working diligently with the phone system to have this feature corrected."
