The Center for Women's Ministries at 314 Lankford Street, Clay City, has announced its upcoming events and activities. As the ministry enters its 5th year of service to Clay County, the goal continues to be a place where women, teenage girls, and couples may come to talk about difficult situations and look to the Bible for real solutions.
"People often need a safe place to unload their feelings and have others help one through difficult situations," said spokesperson Kathy Deal. "The Center for Women's ministries is just that place right here in Clay County. Developing a healthy attitude can help us deal with the stress of our lives. The para-professional counselors are trained to help others deal openly with their past and present circumstances in a confidential manner."
In 2003, the Clay County center saw 30 new clients in addition to those who continue to come. Support groups, Bible studies, and one-on-one counseling opportunities have all played unique roles in helping others to come through tough times and there is no charge for the services. There is an on-going support group focused on the book "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren. Marriage counseling continues to be very active as well.
A basic training class for counseling is being planned for later this year.
"If you are interested in growing in this area to be a help to others, please call the center at 812-939-1317," Deal said.
Clay County trainers from all areas of the county will be conducting the classes.
Clay County is only a small part of the Center for Women's Ministries. More centers have opened up in Indiana, Florida, and Missouri. Training is in progress in other areas of the country and interest has opened up in Africa and Europe.
