A Clay County woman was seriously injured Tuesday morning when her car hit a tree near Bowling Green.

Clay County deputies Doug Barr and Jon Lambert reported Sherry Cutrer's car left S.R. 46 and hit a tree about 1 mile east of Bowling Green around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Cutrer was conscious at the scene, deputies said. She complained of pain throughout her body and may have suffered internal injuries, Lambert said at the scene.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound and left the highway on the left side at the time of the accident. Clay County Search and Rescue was called to the scene for entrapment; however, Cutrer was easily freed from the car.

Cutrer was treated at the scene and transported by ambulance to St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was examined and transported by Lifeline helicopter to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, where she was listed in stable condition.

The car was heavily damaged and considered a total loss, police said.

Assisting the Clay County Sheriff's Department were Clay County Search and Rescue, Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department and Athens Ambulance.
