Mullenix Lawn Service received the 2004 mowing contract from the Brazil Parks Board at last night's meeting in City Hall. The Mullenix bid was not the lowest. It was $330 higher than Vision Quest's bid of $22,000.
Treasurer John Tilley said Mullenix did a very good job last year. Even though Vision Quest had good references, Tilley felt that the difference in the bid was so small, the Board should keep someone they knew, from experience, did good work.
With a 3-1 vote, the Board moved to hire Rick Woolery Tree Service for $600 to remove a tree west of the Pavilion. John Tilley opposed.
The Board received bids from Pell Roofing and Ellis Roofing to replace the pool house roof. Pell's bid covered the roof and side walls while the Ellis bid covered only the roof. The board tabled the item until the March meeting so they can look at the side walls to determine if they need replaced.
The Board discussed a proposal from Mark Rogers, Golf Pro at Forest Park Golf Course. In a written statement, Rogers addressed the possibility of developing a First Tee Chapter at Craig Park.
The First Tee is an organization developed by the World Golf Foundation in alliance with other golf associations and non-profit and corporate partners to bring golf to many groups of children and adults who might otherwise not have access to the sport.
Rogers will be on the agenda for the March meeting to present his proposal and answer questions from the Board.
The next Park Board meeting is 7 p.m. March 3, at City Hall.
